FAQ Curbing Information

We serve much more than our name suggests! Unfortunately we do not do work out of state but we provide our services to the whole North East Indiana area. We try to stay within a 1 hour radius of Northern Fort Wayne.

  • ‘They’ are not pieces or sections. The curbing is one continuous piece of concrete that is custom installed at your home. The cuts you see approximately every 3′ are expansion/ control joints (similar to what you see on sidewalks). We look forward to providing you with your own landscape curb installation.
  • Modern landscape concrete curbing is not a new product. It originated in the early 80’s, but it wasn’t really introduced to Northern Indiana until the early 2000s. We were the first curbing company in our area. With modern colors and designs, it quickly grew in popularity.
  • In terms of longevity, it is a true concrete product. Proper installation and proper maintenance can ensure it will look great for many years to come. We use top of the line products to ensure long lasting curb. We use a special additive to increase strength and we run a braided steel cable throughout the curbing. We even go that extra mile and use a special additive and sealants to ensure a clear & consistent color. Please browse our gallery and social media to see new photos of old past work. Some of our work as old as 2008 is still in place and looking great. We are so confident you will love installed curb, that we have a Satisfaction Guarantee! We only collect our money once the work is completed and you are completely satisfied! We take it a step further and give you a one-year warranty on materials and workmanship.

  • We dig about a ½ inch deep by 8 inches wide to remove sod roots and smooth the surface area. This can be done without disturbing your existing landscape beds. There is no footer material needed. As the concrete is installed it forms to the ground, creating its own footer.
  • It is up to the home owner’s discretion to call 811 (Call Before You Dig). Our sod cutting is so shallow that we should not hit any lines. Very rarely we may catch a phone or internet line if they were buried too shallow. Occasionally we find a sprinkler head that was buried under the ground and not visible. If you have sprinklers, you could choose to mark them so that we know where they are.

The base colors are iron oxide pigments that are mixed into the concrete during the mixing process. The color will not flake off or disappear over time as the curbing is colored throughout. You may experience a little fading of the topical design colors, but this is normal in any outdoor color application. A sealer can aid in the lifetime of the color. We recommend sealing every two to three years.

  • No prep work on your behalf is required. We will arrive the scheduled morning and begin our prep work. We sod cut and smooth the surface area where the curbing is desired. Before installation, we will walk the areas with you for a final inspection. Once the landscaping layout is confirmed, concrete will be custom mixed and the curbing will be installed with the desired design. By the end of the day, we clean all areas and rake around the curbing before applying the sealer.
  • It is beneficial that our curbing is one continuous piece of concrete. Individual blocks or bricks will shift & move over time, especially with winter temperature changes. We use a 23 grade sand that ensures maximum strength while allowing for the fine detailed designs we use. Our curb is fibermesh reinforced to add strength to the concrete. We place control/ expansion joints every 3 feet that are cut about 40% into the curb. This is similar to the lines you see on sidewalks. This is designed to control the cracking of the curb during shifting periods and colder months. We experience very little cracking. If the curb would crack, it should crack in the expansion joint and not be noticeable. Modern curbing also contains a braided steel cable (rebar alternative) running through the center of it. The cable helps to prevent further movement and separation.
  • We experience very little cracking however all concrete will eventually crack. We take every precaution to limit the cracking and try to control it with expansion joints. We use a 23 grade sand and a fiber mesh to ensure maximum strength of the concrete while still allowing for the decorative design details. We also run a braided steel cable throughout the curbing to ensure minimal movement if the concrete does crack. (Also see “What about frost and ground movement?”)
  • Concrete curbing is ideal for most any terrain. A small concrete extruding machine is very easily maneuvered, thereby providing the design flexibility needed for your specific lawn type. It curves, circles, or extrudes straight lines to allow you any outline shape you desire.
  • Extruded concrete curbing has a proven track record at preventing sod from entering your landscape beds. Weeds cannot grow between this edging since it is all one continuous piece. The curbing is too wide for sod roots to grow underneath. As long as your grass clippings are not blown into your flower bed, you will not have creeping sod in your flower bed area any longer!

There will not be any damage to your landscape! In fact, we recommend your sod, flowerbeds, and sprinkler systems be installed prior to our arrival. We do not use any large motorized machinery such as bobcats or motorized wheelbarrows during the installation process. Most jobs can be prepared, installed, completed and presentable in one day.

  • The concrete curb is very vulnerable during the first forty-eight hours after installation. It is imperative to keep guests, children, and pets away from the curb for two full days. In addition, many homeowners have irrigation systems which need to be turned off the day before our arrival and not turned back on until two days after installation. If the curb is damaged from any type of force we can fix the curb, however there will be an additional fee for this service. It takes approximately 28 days for the concrete to cure to its full strength. Please wait a minimum of four days before push mowing against the curb and seven days for riding mowers. It is OK to rake your bed covering back into place a few days after installation, just make sure the curb does not take a direct hit from any tools in the first few days. It is best to wait a few weeks before you begin any major replanting or changes to your bed area. Keep in mind, do not allow anyone to dig underneath the curb, or run over the curb with a vehicle.
  • Compared to having professionally installed paver blocks and other alternatives, our prices are very comparable. Curbing is also a more effective long-term barrier as the concrete is one continuous piece. This minimizes movement and cracks that mulch and weeds can get in between. We offer a free, no-obligation quote and expect no deposit down. There are also no hidden fees or additional labor charges. We only collect our payment when the job is complete and you are fully satisfied.
  • As with other concrete products, curbing is very low maintenance. To better protect it, every 2 to 3 years you will want to reapply a sealer to the curbing. Keeping a sealer on it will help the longevity and protect against harsh weather. Refreshing the sealer also enhances its color bringing back the natural beauty of the concrete. We recommend a water based topical concrete sealer. We recommend spraying the sealer on with any pump-up sprayer. The sealer can be brushed on but keep in mind that you should apply a very thin coat.We do not do concrete re-sealing but here are amazon links for supplies to do it yourself:
  • Use the Links:
    Sealer – https://amzn.to/4k8qw7s (Amazon)
    Sprayer – https://amzn.to/4bbzjlk (Amazon)
  • 1 gallon will do about 200-300 feet of curbing. Lightly scrub off any residue or bird poop, allow to dry completely. Cover near by concrete slabs to shield overspray. Seal it on a very dry day. Add another coat if you want extra shine.
